CHB Accomplishments

Building Welcoming Communities in the Northern Zone

Community Health Boards (CHBs) are committed to creating healthier, more inclusive communities. One of the ways they do this is by supporting activities that build connections across cultures and foster a strong sense of belonging. Research shows that social inclusion and a sense of community are key determinants of health—affecting mental wellness, access to resources, and overallquality of life. By investing in initiatives that welcome newcomers and celebrate diversity, CHBs are helping to strengthen the social fabric of our communities and improve health outcomes for all. Click on the graphic below to see highlights of some of the welcoming community initiatives that CHBs in the Northern Zone have been proud to support.

Action on Community Health Plan Priorities

Each CHB has a local action plan for addressing the community health plan priorities.

Their projects and activities over the five-year life of their plan are too many to list for all 35 CHBs province-wide but the report highlights some examples of CHB actions on the current health plan priorities.

PaRx

The Kingston/Greenwood Community Health Board is pleased to partner with PaRx, Canada’s national nature prescription program, to officially launch nature prescribing in Nova Scotia. Health professionals across the province can now formally prescribe nature to their patients as part of their personal health care plans.

Community Meals on Wheels

North Inverness CHB was the chosen recipient of the Outstanding Community Contribution Award due to their work with Community Meals on Wheels. Vulnerable people are receiving healthy midday meals to 45 clients 3 times per week and their wellbeing is monitored by the drivers who deliver these meals. With the availability of healthy, regular meals implicated in the overall health outcomes of populations a demonstrated record of success may be noted by healthcare providers over time.
