Statement on Racism - June 2020

With events surrounding the killing of George Floyd in the US and similar incidents in Canada involving people of African descent, Nova Scotians are coming together to stand against institutional racism and discrimination. The volunteers of Nova Scotia’s 37 Community Health Boards stand with African Nova Scotians. We have advocated for equity and social justice in our health system and communities since our creation over 20 years ago. We recognize the impact systemic racism has on health equity and part of our work is to amplify understanding of health inequities and their root causes. Like many institutions, we know we that we can and must do better to achieve a safe, caring and just society for all of us, including our African Nova Scotian family, friends and neighbours.

If you are feeling overwhelmed and helpless as a result of these events, or want to educate yourself about racism we have gathered some resources that may help.
